JAKUB SÝKORA *1984 Rakovník
Jakub Sýkora studied at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts from 2006 to 2012 (New Media II studio, Veronika Bromová; Painting I studio, Prof. Jiří Sopko). In 2010, he undertook a study stay at SAMK University in the town of Kankaanpää, Finland. In 2013, he was awarded the Jan Zrzavý Prize, and in 2014, he was a finalist for the Critic’s Prize for Young Painting with Extensions.
The artist has been included in the context of contemporary art mainly through group exhibitions such as Černý kůň (2015, Adam Gallery, Brno), Meta-stázy obrazu (2017, Topičův Salon, Prague), Raději sbírat motýly? (2019, Prazák Palace, Brno), or the two-person exhibitionBarevný dialog with Prof. Jiří Sopko (AMB Gallery, Hradec Králové).
He has held solo exhibitions in Prague at the Vyšehrad Gallery (2016, Radiátor ve křoví), at the Egon Schiele Art Centre in Český Krumlov (2021, Nejasno), at the Exhibition Hall Sokolská 29 in Ostrava (2022, Nemluvte za jízdy s řidičem), at the Artefin Gallery in Měšice near Prague (2023, Krajina dat), and most recently at the Kvalitář Gallery in Prague (2024, Vertikální horizont).
Jakub Sýkora’s paintings are primarily represented in private collections in the Czech Republic, as well as in several European collections.
